Introduction
Are you interested in the Maasai culture, or in truly indigenous music? If you are, browsing through this website will be a most enjoyable experience. It contains authentic audio and video material of a unique project: the recording of the traditional music of the Maasai people. The music recordings, which took place in July 2000, are available on CD: ‘Maigisa: Songs of the Maasai’.

The recording of the traditional Maasai music is a non-profit project: the proceeds of the CD will be invested in small grass-roots projects which are aimed at supporting the Maasai society whilst preserving its unique culture. The projects are run by the very same people who have performed on the CD.

If you wish to make a donation to the grass-roots projects, please click here. For gifts over USD 25,-, you can opt for receiving the CD free of charge.

Ereto Maasai Women Group
The overriding spirit of the CD-project has been to produce an authentic document of the Maasai music culture, by Maasai people and for Maasai people. The CD was produced in co-operation with the Ereto Maasai Women Group. This women group was established in the 1970s in an effort to halt the vicious spiral of cattle disease, droughts, alcoholism and decline in cultural standards of the Maasai in Eor-endeke (Namanga area, northern Tanzania, close to the border with Kenya). The group is highly organised and totally committed to creating a better future for their children. Already they have successfully started a number of initiatives such as small trade activities and cultural tourism. And thanks to their efforts, livestock has returned to normal levels, alcoholism has been reduced and social stability in the area has been re-established.
